Living Wage in Supply Chains

Following the UN Business and Human Rights Guiding Principles, the Dutch government stimulates the implementation of Living Wage in international supply chains. In many developing and emerging countries, employees of suppliers do not earn enough to provide for themselves and their families. A Living Wage covers basic needs such as food, housing & clothing. It is considered a universal human right.

This project brings together multinational companies, European governments, the ILO and partners such as the Fair Wear Foundation, BSCI and UTZ certified. Together with these stakeholders our team has made an inventory report of the main issues relating to Living Wage and its implementation. We then hosted an International Roundtable to discuss what further steps are needed to improve the wages in sourcing countries.
